At Tiff on Friday – Leonardo DiCaprio turned up as a last minute thrill for movie and celebrity watchers – in Toronto to promote his latest “Before The Flood” – a climate change documentary – his appearance caused quite the commotion with King Street being all but shut down.
“Sully” took top spot at the movies this weekend – it opened taking in $35.5 million. The movie about the “Miracle on the Hudson” a hit and directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Tom Hanks.
“Harry” debuts today on TV. It’s a new variety show, modeled after the Dean Martin shows. The new Harry Connick Jr. show is patterned the show after Martin’s _ because it had an unscripted quality. Connick says he wants his show to have that same spontaneous quality. His guests for his debut week include Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams, Renee Zellweger and Terrence Howard.
Alexis Arquette, an actress and transgender activist, died yesterday while surrounded by members of Hollywood’s famous Arquette family. Born Robert, Arquette was the sibling of actors Rosanna, David and Patricia Arquette. No information on the cause of death has been released.
The Creqtive Arts Emmys went this weekend – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler won Emmy gold as “Saturday Night Live” hosts. Game of Thrones dominated winning 9… The creative arts Emmys precede the main ceremony, and will air this coming Saturday night – Sunday night is the main event – the 68th annual prime time Emmy Awards Sunday hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
