The Federal Liberal Government plans to introduce legislation later this fall to regulate vaping. Health Canada did not disclose many details other than saying it plans to protect young people from nicotine and allow adult smokers to use vaping as a quit-smoking aid or as a potentially less harmfull alternative to smoking tobacco.
“It’s a challenging area because, for one thing, we are lacking adequate evidence to completely understand the risks and benefits of e-cigarettes” adding “We acknowledge that one of the things we that needs to be done is to increase the evidence”
Minister Jane Philpott also is concerned over teenage use of vaping.
“We’ve seen recent report that young people are increasinglyusing vaping products, particularly some of the flavoured vaping products, that’s often an entry into nicotine use in teenagers and we have to balance off those risks and benefits”
