The City of Barrie was recently recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) with a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award for the re-brand and website of the Small Business Centre. The award was handed out at a ceremony on Sept. 27 during the IEDC Annual Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.
“We’re extremely honoured to be recognized with this prestigious award,” said Stephannie Schlichter, Director of Business Development. “I believe our new brand has made us more identifiable as a business resource within all of the communities we serve.”
The Small Business Centre encourages and supports entrepreneurship across most of Simcoe County, by being a one-stop source for all small business needs. The Centre is part of the City of Barrie’s Invest Barrie Strategic Portfolio and is also supported by the Province of Ontario.
Previously known as the Greater Barrie Enterprise Centre, it was re-branded to The Small Business Centre in 2015, to better reflect the Centre’s function and the geographical service areas covered. The re-branding included a name change, updated logo, and marketing materials, as well as a completely revamped website.
“On behalf of the IEDC board of directors and Excellence in Economic Development Awards Advisory Committee, congratulations to Invest Barrie,” said Barry Matherly, IEDC 2016 Board Chair. “Not only did they work to provide a necessary service to their community; but also, their participation in the awards program sheds light on their stellar projects which other communities can now use a benchmark.”
IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders. These awards honour organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
