Its a normal school day, you wake up early to pack your child’s lunch for school. You hand it to them, give them a kiss on the cheek and send them off on the bus.
Now imagine they come home later that day, with a note from their teacher with a”critique” of the lunch you packed them.
This has been going on in different districts for years, but some parents have noticed the rend has hit Simcoe Region.
“A teacher told my daughter, Maisy, she couldn’t bring salmon as it made him sick to his stomach,” Barrie mom Louise Brazier said, adding her daughter wasn’t even allow to unwrap her sandwich in class. “She had dietary restrictions so her choices were limited.” – The Barrie Advance via simcoe.com
Locally, the practice was first seen in Durham region, where students had items confiscated from their lunch because of certain ingredients they contained, for nutritional reasons rather than an allergen risk.
While teaching nutritional values in elementary schools is obviously important, do you feel that a teacher should criticize the lunch you pack for your kids?
