There’s a trend up in our neck of the woods right now, and it seems to be stunt driving.
It seems like almost every week we here at BIG FM see at least one or two stories about a stunt driving charge being laid in the region, sometimes multiple charges on the same day.
Oct 26: A 21 year-old in a BMW caught going 127km/h in a 60 zone
Oct 26: 55 year old woman caught going 107 km/h in a 50 zone in Wasaga
Oct 23: A UK man caught going 174km/h on the 400 (100km/h limit)
Oct 23: A Tay Township man caught going 170km/h on the 400, also fled police
Oct 14: Barrie man caught going 118km/h in a 60 zone in Innisfil
Oct 5: A dump truck driver caught going 108km/h in a 60 zone in New Tecumseth
Oct 3: A 27 year-old Orillia man caught going 141km/h on Yonge Street in Innisfil
Now here’s my question: what’s the hurry?
Whether these drivers are going these speeds to test the limits of their cars or they are just in a SERIOUS rush, all of them risk killing themselves or other people.
You could possibly kill a family of 5 in a minivan going that speed if you lose control, but hey, if you really wanna risk that to see what the horses under your hood are capable of, by all means, go ahead.
We live in a region with two NASCAR tracks, where reaching those speeds is perfectly legal and safe for the general public. If you just got a new ride and wanna test the speeds it can reach, I’d recommend doing it there.
If you do it on public roads, then 7-days isn’t a long enough license suspension for you. It should be for 7 years.
