Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. If you like football, you’re probably more of an NFL person. But that doesn’t mean nobody likes the CFL. In fact, this year’s Grey Cup is expected to fill the newly renovated BMO Field in Toronto with over 30,000 Canadian football fans to watch the clash between the Calgary Stampeders and the Ottawa Redblacks.
This year’s halftime show? uuuuuuuh…. OneRepublic…
I mean, OneRepublic isn’t a bad…if you’re watching the Grey Cup with your teenage daughter.
Below I’ve attached videos of my personal favourites:
The Tragically Hip, 2004
“Canadian” is in “Canadian Football League,” and it doesn’t get much more Canadian than the Hip. Gord Downie performed at the 92nd Grey Cup Halftime Show, which pitted the Argos against the BC Lions. This Grey Cup was held in Ottawa, in the home turf of the former Ottawa Renegades.
Bachman Turner Overdrive, 2010
The score was 11-8 as the Saskatchewan Roughriders led over the Montreal Alouettes (that lead wouldn’t last long), and after the players took to the dressing rooms to concoct their 2nd half gameplan, BTO played all their old favourites on a cold November night in Edmonton.
Blue Rodeo, 2009
This game came down to the wire, The Montreal Aloutettes only squeaking out a win 28-27 over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. My guess is their 4th quarter comeback win was a result of Blue Rodeo’s halftime performance.
