You’ve heard a lot about speed cameras but red light cameras could also be coming to the city soon.
Red light cameras have slid their way into a Barrie city council meeting agenda for Dec 5th.
This past year, there were almost 3,000 collisions as a result of failing to yield for red or yellow lights.
Barrie Police, however, have told the Barrie Examiner this isn’t really necessary:
Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood noted red-light cameras remain a city council decision, however, an initiative that goes through the province.
She also said the numbers don’t really work.
“From a reduction and prevention piece, I’m not sure if the value of the (red-light) camera would assist in an enforcement perspective,” Greenwood said
