The legendary logo and awning that hung above CBGB’s club in New York has been sold at auction for $30,000 according to publication ‘The Village Voice’. Former manager Drew Bushong, who joined the club in it’s twilight years in 2000, put the awning up for auction via Sotheby’s.
Didn’t the awning find a place in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame? yes it did. There are multiple awnings, the one sold at auction was used from 1998-2003.
What happened to the original awning from the club’s launch and heyday? apparently stolen by punk band ‘Jodie Foster’s Army’ after a gig in the eighties.
An un-heralded part of the CBGB’s legacy has to be the bathroom. This could very well be the most rock n’ roll toilet in the world. (photo cred: David Corio / Getty)
