Voice controlled appliances are set to launch early this year! It’s a partnership between Whirlpool and Amazon.com and it will consist of Alexa-enabled appliances.
Users will be able to do things like set and adjust the cooking mode on smart ovens, and ask their smart refrigerator for temperatures and settings.
So here’s the problem with that: As my sister at our sister station FreshFM – Tara Dawn – noted yesterday, Siri and her pals DO NOT UNDERSTAND one words she says. I have the same issue – so many others must too. It’s become a cruel game. And one that musters great frustration when I am trying to voice-text or ask Siri something.
If I say “Hey Dishwasher, put yourself on Smart clean and turn on” ANYTHING could happen. The fridge might suddenly come to life, sprout arms and start using the stove.
How smart do we need appliances to be anyway? I’m barely smart enough to operate them.
I AM smart enough to order take-out.
