An Amber Alert yesterday morning gave us all that dreaded feeling of anxiety. A 15 year old girl missing. Reportedly forced into a van by two men.
We all felt sick. Although the alert came yesterday morning when the abduction was supposed to have happened the previous day around 1pm.
The alert was cancelled before I left work around 10am. A sigh of relief!
The Amber Alert system is very necessary. But it is not perfect. Many people commented on social media that there is no mechanism to slow-up the constant sharing of the alert well after it was cancelled. I actually saw someone share it on LinkedIn around 6pm last night – at least 9 hours after Alyssa Langille was found safe.
Additionally – I was among those that wondered why the alert came out a day after her disappearance.
There are reports now on CTV that describe Langille as having “run away” at least two other times.
