Sunday’s record breaking snowfall meant the closure of many rural roads throughout the region on Sunday, but that didn’t mean everyone listened.
Road closures on northern routes are for snow plows to clear narrow roads so they are safe for use.
However, OPP pulled over and ticketed drivers using closed roads despite signs indicating they were not to be used. OPP Constable Paul Nancekeville tells CTV News Barrie:
” You have highways that are narrow, that aren’t properly maintained right now for people to be on. That’s why we close them. We close them so we can get them cleaned up. That’s our biggest problem […] We’re out here in a marked police cruiser with the lights on and they’re driving right by us. We try to get people to smarten up and stay the hell off them. It’s frustrating.”

Driving on a closed road can result in fines and up to 3 demerit points.
