Here’s what field trips were like for me, growing up in a border city.
We’d be on the school bus pulling up to the Detroit border, everyone would hold up their birth certificates, and the border agent would say “seems legit” and we’d be on our way to whatever scheduled field trip we have in the states.
These times, they are a changin’.
School boards across the country, particularly ones in border cities are now reconsidering, or just straight up cancelling trips to the United States out of safety concerns. A school board in Ottawa has left it up to the parent’s discretion as to whether or not their child participates in such trips. Meanwhile, a school board in Windsor has cancelled a handful of trips altogether.
Other school boards have re-instated their planned trips to the US after the block of President Donald Trump’s travel ban.
