Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority that advises we have received 25 to 35 mm of rainfall in the watershed over the last two days. The forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday is an additional 40 to 60 mm of rainfall, changing to wet snow Thursday night.
Water levels have begun to rise following the rainfall received earlier this week and are expected to continue to rise with the additional forecast rain. There is the potential for localized flooding. No major flooding is anticipated at this time. Stream banks can be slippery and unstable, which combined with cold water temperatures can create hazardous conditions around our rivers and streams.
Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should be on alert.
Hazardous conditions may exist around all waterbodies, as there is a high risk of life-threatening injury if a person falls into the extremely cold water. The public and especially children are advised to stay away from all waterbodies.
