2004 was a long time ago. Napoleon Dynamite was in theatres, Justin Bieber was 10 years old, Facebook had just launched, Jennifer Aniston was still with Brad Pitt, and the Toronto Maple Leafs won their playoff series against the Ottawa Senators in 7 games.
If you remember correctly, they were then swiftly eliminated by the Flyers in the 2nd round, and haven’t been past the 1st round, nor had a playoff series lead since.
But now its 2017, and the Leafs were able to keep the momentum going to defeat the Washington Capitals 4-3 in OT, bringing them a series lead of 2-1. Tyler Bozak was able to get the game-winner 1:37 into overtime with the help of a 5-on-4 powerplay.
“Overtime” was the key word for hockey fans last night, with all 4 games going into extra frames. Thankfully for everyone who had work the next morning, these games only needed a single overtime period to find a game-winning goal.
We’re still a long ways off from the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where a total of 18 games needed overtime.
