April showers aren’t the only reason you should be wearing a raincoat.
In a story first reported by BarrieToday.com, STI cases are on the rise in our region, as government cuts have also force the closure of Alliston’s sexual health clinic.
The numbers are fairly clear:
“From 2010 to 2015, there has been a sharp increase in the incidence of gonorrhea, particularly among men. In 2015, the gonorrhea incidence rate among Simcoe Muskoka males was 28.6 cases per 100,000 population compare to 17.4 per cent per 100,0000 population for males.” – Dr. Charles Gardner
The numbers of chlamydia cases are also on the rise:
“The number of confirmed cases has risen from 364 in 2000 to more than 1,2000 in 2015. The incidence is highest among women in their teen and young adult years.”
