Well that was a wild Saturday night wasn’t it?
Tornado warnings were issued for York Region in the afternoon, then as night fell we were under tornado warnings ourselves.
In an even crazier coincidence, these tornado warnings came down three years to the exact day of the tornado that ripped through Angus in 2014.
Here at the station, I ran back in after getting the warnings to do extra coverage and let you know what was happening. Growing up in a tornado-prone area, the radar and clouds looked to me like a reason for concern. Environment Canada has yet to confirm if any funnel clouds actually touched down. So far there aren’t any reports of damage either.
Still, better to be safe than sorry. With this area’s history of tornadic activity, we’ve learned that lesson before.
