A dump truck hauls off 1.2 tonnes of shoes, dating back to…some point.
And like that, a Simcoe County landmark becomes nothing but a distant memory.
“The Shoe Tree,” located in the outskirts of Barrie on Crossland Road in Springwater, was de-shoed and cut down at the request of Simcoe County. According to the removal company itself, the tree had become a safety risk.
“There was too many people going across the road and almost getting hit and taking pictures and it was becoming a liability,” Stephen Bumstead of Ray’s Tree Service explained as to why the County said it wanted the tree cut down. “It had to be removed because it was dangerous.” – BarrieToday.com
If you’re wondering where all the weathered shoes have gone, they’ve been hauled off to the dump. After prolonged exposure to the elements, it’s doubtful anyone would want to wear them anyway.
