It’s the first time the Saskatchewan native has been with a team other than the San Jose Sharks.
While risky, picking up Patrick Marleau adds a big depth of experience to the mostly younger Leafs roster. Marleau has 1,500 games and 500 goals to his name, along with two Olympic gold medals he picked up in 2010 and 2014.
Last season with the Sharks Marleau put up 27 goals and 19 assists, not missing a single game. He hasn’t missed a game since the 2008-09 season.
The main concern to most hockey fans seems to be his age. He turns 38 this September. His +/- has also suffered in recent years, finishing the 2015-16 season at a -22.
Marleau is under contract to the Maple Leafs until the 2019-20 season.
