The OPP say two men are in hospital after a plane flipped over while trying to land on a lake near Orillia today.
Around 3:30pm this afternoon, the aircraft was attempting to land on the water near the Lake St. John Regional Airport when it flipped for unknown reasons.
Nearby residents who witnessed the crash responded with their boats and rescued the two men from the plane. The men were transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and will be assisting with the ongoing investigation, however the plane has since sunk and arrangements are now underway to have the plane raised to the surface.
The OPP say that further details, including the exact make and model of plane that was involved, will be provided as the investigation continues and once the water recovery is made.
