Game of Thrones season 7 launched last night on HBO to much fanfare and acclaim. After 6 full seasons the series, which started off with a complicated weave of characters, has become even busier with lesser known characters who are now becoming players in the great game.
Let’s start with Lyanna Mormont who stole the show near the end of last season as a young warrior and leader of ‘Bear Island’ who banded with Jon Snow in the ‘Battle of The Bastards’ to reclaim Winterfell for House Stark. Watch for more of Lyanna as her house will help defend the North vs White Walkers to the North and the Lannisters to the south.
Robin Arryn is lord of the Vale and was pretty much installed there by Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish after he cleverly killed Robin’s mother, establishing himself as Robin’s advisor and ‘uncle’. He’s been portrayed as being sickly and not a great fighter, easily manipulated by his ‘uncle’ Petyr but will he eventually get wise? will Yohn Royce (loyal, distinguished military man of the Vale) eventually find the leverage he needs to oust Petyr Baelish from the Vale? Littlefinger now commands the most powerful fighting force in Westeros, through Robin Arryn, and has put himself in a position to control the North through his skeptical alliance with house Stark.
Beric Dondarrian is the leader of ‘The Brotherhood without banners’ which hasn’t been seen much since season 3. He’s also been fantastically ressurected after death several times by one of his fellow brothers ‘Thoros of Myr’ who is a Red Priest. Look for Beric to become a major character this season as it appears he’s taking the Brotherhood north towards the wall for a pending battle with the White Walkers. Will he and his clan band together with Jon Snow and the Starks? or the Knights Watch? will they all clash waste deep in snow? we’ve already seen a teaser that shows him ignite a flaming sword, so it looks like things are going to get crazy!
Podrick Payne. He’s a squire for Brienne but started his squiring career with Tyrion Lannister during the battle of the five kings. He also has a legendary, ahem, package. His giant manhood became the talk of capital city King’s Landing after a night with several prositutes who refused to charge for the service. That’s right, he also knows how to use it! Currently training ‘one hour in the morning’ and ‘one hour at night’ to be a full-on knight and lord knows the Stark’s northern alliance needs all the swords and help they can get. Unless he’s planning to sleep with White Walkers, it’s time to start training!
