Ontario lawmakers and school boards have been debating this for quite some time.
Cullman County in Alabama is done talking and they are implementing cameras on school buses.
The cameras are to catch drivers who pass a stopped school bus. The Sheriff’s office said they need to send a loud and strong message to drivers. We have the technology to catch them and they will prosecute.
If a driver passes a stopped school bus at 7:15 AM, the Sheriff’s Department will have the license plate number by 9 later that same morning.
In the past, bus drivers had to get the license plate number of a car that passed them, and then had to swear out a warrant for that person, and then it was the bus driver’s word against that other person’s, Harper said.
This new technology will speed up the system and will catch suspects faster.
The Cullman County School board said that the number of illegal passing had been going up over the past few years and they said they had to do something about it!
What do you think about this? I think this is an amazing idea! Ontario needs to take the lead from Alabama and move forward with this life saving technology!
