Ronnie Wood has revealed that he had a ‘touch of lung cancer’ as recently as three months ago. Can you really just have a ‘touch’ of cancer? seems like a bit of a downplay for such a serious prognosis but apparently he’s OK now and planning to head out on tour with The Rolling Stone as planned. Speaking with the Daily Mail in an interview published over the weekend, Wood said “There was a week when everything hung in the balance and it could have been curtains” describing the weeks following his diagnosis he was adamant that he wouldn’t undergo chemo therapy because he didn’t want to jeopardize his thick mop of hair.
“A week later they came back with the news that it hadn’t spread and I said ‘Let’s get it out now’. According to Ronnie, they got it all and he only needs a check-up every three months. Wood also quit smoking just a year ago and even admits he’d been questioning how he’d dodged a bullet after years of abuse “How can I have got through 50 years of chain-smoking — and all the rest of my bad habits — without something going on in there,”
The 70-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist quit smoking just before the birth of his twin daughters a year ago but not everybody was thrilled, bandmate Keith Richards was comedically critical calling him out for ‘a complete lack of commitment’.
Wood also quit drinking after his eighth stint in rehab which means Keith has truly lost his partner in crime “Keith jokingly told Ronnie they might as well not be pals seeing as they can no longer drink or smoke together anymore.”
