It’s always tough to hear of someone’s death. It seems so much more traumatic or shocking when it’s a sudden passing like Tom Petty.
He was just out on the road-last week and performing; he was only 66.
I’m sure you’ve heard now the horrible news. Petty was hospitalized on Sunday night after being discovered unconscious in full cardiac arrest. Medical personnel who rushed to the scene were able to restart Petty’s pulse and he was put on life support at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital.
A statement from Petty’s long time manager, Tony Dimitriades, said that Petty died Monday at 8:40 p.m. PT, “surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”
The tributes are pouring in; the love of this simple man and his music has been heartbreaking to his fans.
So, I thought that a lighter mood was called for. Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Bacon took the Tom Petty classic “Free Falling” and make it their own. I’m sure Petty had a good laugh when he saw the skit on Fallon’s late night show. I hope it can make you laugh on such a sad day.
Here’s Tom’s last show, last week, at the Hollywood bowl. RIP Tom Petty and thanks for the music!
