Bill Nye the Science Guy would be proud of us!
Here’s a morbid thought on Halloween…how much candy would you have to eat to die?
The American Chemical Society crunched the numbers and came up with the exact amount of candy that could kill us!
The calculations show that the average 180-pound person would have to plow through about 5.4 pounds of sugar to have about a 50/50 chance of a lethal overdose.
Since sucking down a five-pound bag of sugar in one sitting isn’t a widely celebrated Halloween tradition, they also determined the equivalent amount of those “Fun Size” candy servings that are popular with trick-or-treaters. Taking the average sugar content for those single serving sweets, it would take about 262 pieces, or 20,000 calories worth of candy to do us in.
As you reach for another bite size Mars Bar, keep that in mind.
