If you thought it was unusually cold over the past few days, you’d be right! We’ve had some record low temperatures over the past few days in Ontario and right across the country.
The City of Barrie decided to bring the Downtown Countdown inside this year because of the -30 ish degree temps in Barrie on New Year’s Eve.
Toronto’s Pearson airport saw a record-setting low of –22.6 C, with the old record of –21.1 C set in 1968. At the Ottawa International Airport, the temperature dropped to –28.6 C beating the 71-year-old record of –27.2 C.
Barrie wasn’t’ alone! According to Environment Canada, an arctic air mass brought extreme cold to most of Canada on Sunday, prompting many cities to alter their New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Good news for the frost bitten of Barrie! The first few days of January 2018 will feel downright balmy with day highs of -6 and and -10.
