Remember when scientists cloned Dolly the sheep in 1996? well, for the first time they have cloned healthy Chinese monkeys. Two female baby macaques are now approaching eight weeks old and while cloning has been used since the initial ‘Dolly’ cloning on animals like dogs, cats, pigs, cows and ponies, this is the first that it’s been successfully done with primates. Monkeys, like humans, are primates, and this achievement is a step closer to potentially being able to clone humans. However the researchers said that while this shows cloning humans is theoretically possible, they have no intention of doing it. Mainstream science, including all international scientific groups, are apposed to creating human babies through cloning.
