Andrew Fallows of Orillia was sentenced to nine years in prison in a Barrie courtroom on Friday morning.
Fallows was found guilty of impaired driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving and dangerous operation causing death after a crash in 2014 on highway 11.
Shania Slater, also of Orillia, was in the passenger seat of the pickup truck when it crashed into a center median. Fallows then moved her body into the drivers seat to make it look like she was driving. She died in hospital nine days after the crash.
Fallows won’t be a free man until at least 2026, which he will then be facing a driving ban for 12 years.
This is one of the harshest sentences of its kind in Canada.
